Loving and Learning
Education is an important part of Sonshine's mission to develop children to be Godly, world-changing leaders. We currently have 48 children in primary school, 19 children in secondary school, and 7 children (young adults) in post-secondary education. Within the count of primary students, 18 are being taught at Sonshine's Children's Home to help catch them up to excel at grade level and 2 are attending the local public school (Malula Primary) to also prepare them to join their 28 other Sonshine siblings at Shilela Primary School, an excellent private school. Many children have been rescued from challenging conditions where attending school was not possible. For those that could periodically attend school, chronic hunger and difficult family dynamics severely impacted their learning environment.
The nation of Tanzania places a high value on education and has strict qualification exams and processes to determine the advancement of students. The Grade Seven and Form Four national exams are two examples. To achieve the best results, grade seven and form four students often board at their schools to complete the extensive preparation. The support in prayer and finances continues to help Sonshine students attend high-quality schools and earn top-tier grades. While we move through our summer months in the United States, let us continue to lift up our Sonshine scholars in prayer for God's blessings and presence in their schools, upon their teachers, and in their classes, studies, exams, and activities.

Sonshine's 20th Anniversary Fund Raising Dinner
Saturday, September 27, 2025
The Sonshine team and volunteers are preparing for a special, fund raising dinner for the ministry's 20th Anniversary. The event will be held at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon, USA. It's been a few years since a fund raising dinner occurred. Over that time, Sonshine has grown from caring for 48 children to now caring for 74 children. As we prepare to celebrate a 20 year milestone with you, it is important to share with you that our currently monthly funding gap is $7500. We are suggesting that each guest attending the 20th Anniversary Fund Raising dinner contribute $100. This will help the ministry begin to fill in some of the existing funding gap. Our desire for the event is for donors and sponsors to invite friends and family who have the capacity to give with the heart for rescuing orphans and seeing the Kingdom of God expanded in in Tanzania.
The dinner will be amazing and the updates and insights shared will be exciting. Of course, a highlight will be connecting live with some of the Sonshine children and staff via video at the children's home in King'ori. We are excited to celebrate with you.

Sharing a Special, Sonshine Visit
Sponsors Jill and Eric Halberg visited Sonshine in June and had a blast meeting and spending time with the children and staff. Jill uses the two word phrase "forever changed" to describe their first visit experience. Two things stood out to them the most - the incredible love that the children have for each other and the love shown by Home Managers Steve and Mary to the children. Thinking they went to bless the children, the Halbergs share that they are the ones that really received the greater blessing. Their notes to self for next visit: "Bring more cookie dough!" and "2,500 beads and elastic bands are not nearly enough for bracelet and necklace crafting!"
