Sonshine News - November 2024

The Open Door

The picture above was taken in the early morning in September at Sonshine Ministries in King’ori, Tanzania. The light flowing through the open door made me think of Lamentations 3. The Lord’s mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is His faithfulness! I also thought of Revelation 3. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

May we all open out hearts to His loving knock this Thanksgiving and rejoice together in our Lord’s never-failing mercy and glorious goodness. Please know that your Sonshine Family loves you very much.

Fabulous Form Fours

Andrew, Joshua, Jasmin, Meggie, Neema, Antonia, and Happy celebrating with Steve.

In November, Sonshine saw seven Form Four exam takers complete their exams. This is equivalent to high school graduation in the US. To celebrate, home manager Steve took the students out for a meal of Ugali, meat, and soda. Form Four exams are a big milestone in the academic journey of Tanzanian students. Successfully passing the exams signifies academic achievement and paves the way for opportunities in higher education. Preparing for these exams requires diligent study, deep understanding of the subjects, and supportive planning.

Shining Service

Meet Siriel Akyoo. In 2013, Siri came to Sonshine to help with laundry. Her diligence, hard work, and consistency moved her to cooking. A genuine heart for the children saw her promoted to a Care Giver. Today, Siri serves as a trusted leader and representative of the female staff. Her integrity, work ethic, and infectious smile are an inspiration. In Luke 16:10, Jesus shared that whoever can be trusted with little can also be trusted with much. This is Siri - humble before the Lord as He lifts her up. (James 4:10)

Funding Needs

Sonshine Ministries has been blessed to have generous and faithful sponsors and donors from its beginning. Over the past several years, rising inflation and ongoing monthly expenses for home care and school have contributed to a growing gap between monthly funds received and monthly expenses paid. Because the full, annual cost per child of home care and school has been $2700USD over the past few years, we are now inviting additional sponsorship for existing children as we seek more new sponsors in our planned efforts to add more children beginning in December. Your help sharing the need for more sponsors and end-of-year donations is greatly appreciated. Every little bit has a big impact.
